Growing Season

Body
The weather in February was less than favorable with ice and lots of snow, not to mention the brutally cold temperatures that we are not used to having. However, like most days in Oklahoma, the weather changed from -17 degrees to beautiful 50’s and 60’s. It is almost time for those of you who like to garden to get some plants in the ground. Later this month is a good time to get those potatoes and carrots in the ground. Make sure to hold off on planting those tomatoes and peppers until closer to May. They can’t handle the late cold snaps we can get sometimes. Make sure to check your Farmer’s Almanac for when to plant each vegetable. Most vegetables you buy comes with instructions on when to plant them. Or if you have any questions, you can always call your OSU extension office and they would be happy to help you.

“I take great care of MY car. I actively do regular maintenance on MY car. I rotate the tires, change the oil, and get a brake job on MY car when needed. I update MY computer when updates become available.”

Where Would You Look For God?

Body
The young man drove from Los Angeles up to Yosemite National Park on an unusually beautiful day in February. He didn’t believe in God. On one mountaintop, he viewed an immense valley filled with snow-covered pines.

Could This Be True?

Have you thought much about heaven? Children often think more about being with God forever than older folks, who are closer to knowing what it will be like. Some world religions speak of a place where life is satisfied with worldly pleasures.

The other day I was thinking about how many similarities there are between Lance Armstrong and me. You might have heard several years ago that Armstrong, world-famous cyclist and cancer survivor, finally admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs during his career. These drugs undeniably played a part in his ability to win an unprecedented seven consecutive Tour de France championships, which made him a best-selling author and celebrity.

“Shady Deals and That’s Good Enuff’’

Body
Familiar with it? The phrase, “Hey, I know a guy who can… ,” usually said to you about the time you have thrown a plumbing wrench clear across the kitchen. Referring to a man you can trust to fix the job you just botched–and do it honestly and perfectly. Someone who has gained the public’s confidence in his expertise. Whoa!! That can be hard to find today in this world of shady deals and ‘that’s good enuff.’

Mrs. Ava Average turned into the crowded parking lot of her local department store and finally found a parking space. After locking her car door, she headed rapidly toward the entrance, intent on finishing up quickly and beating the crowds back onto the congested streets. Like everyone else that day, she had things to do and places to be, with not nearly enough time to get it all done.

Family Discussions

Have you seen movies or read stories about people who were hospitable? Have you known people who always find a way to give to others? My sister and her husband inspired me by their kindness and giving. Every time I visited, they tried to give me something to take with me, such as groceries, clothing, or even gasoline money. My sister said our mother lived her life giving to others. She said that before I was born and home was near the railroad tracks, Mother would feed every hobo who came to our door. I suppose these were examples which also inspired my older brother, Richard.
