Readers on the field

Bristow families are invited to trade the classroom for the baseball field for an evening centered around books, students and community.

Bristow FCCLA will host Readers on the Field on Thursday, Oct. 1st, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Bristow High School baseball field. The community literacy event is geared toward families with children in pre-K through third grade and is designed to bring younger students together with Bristow middle and high school students through reading.

During the event, children will have the opportunity to move from group to group and listen as older students are encouraged to represent the activities they love by wearing jerseys, uniforms, club shirts, band gear or other school-related attire.

The event will also serve children beyond the Bristow community. Families are encouraged, but not required, to bring a new children’s book to donate to Oklahoma foster children.

Families with children aged through four will also have an opportunity to sign up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides eligible children with a free book each month.

Students participating as readers are asked to arrive by 5:45 p.m., with the family portion of the event starting at 6 p.m.

Readers on the Field combines an evening of reading with a chance for Bristow’s older students to encourage some of the community’s youngest Pirates—showing them that reading can happen anywhere, even under the lights of a baseball field.
