In Celebration of Birth and Service

In 1938, Congress set aside November 11th as Veterans Day to honor all veterans; however, for one local veteran, the day happens to be extra special. Basil Baker, born on the family farm south of Bristow to John Henry and Cordelia “Cordie” Overstreet Baker on November 11, 1920, entered the world without expectation of the full life he would go on to live over the next century. Thursday marks his 101st birthday. Moreover, as a veteran of the United States Cavalry, Basil not only celebrates his birthday each year on November 11th but his military service as well.

Veteran's Day Assembly to be held at the Freeland Center

After latest execution, death penalty under the political spotlight in Oklahoma

Oklahoma’s latest execution, its first in six years, has put the death penalty squarely under the political spotlight once again. John Marion Grant, 60, who was strapped to a gurney inside the execution chamber, began convulsing and vomiting after the first drug, the sedative midazolam, was administered on Thursday, Sean Murphy with the Associated Press, reported.

Ingredients 2 tablespoons canola oil 3 small sweet red peppers, finely chopped 3 small sweet red peppers, finely chopped 1 large onion, finely chopped 2 small celery ribs, finely chopped 1 ½ teaspoons dried thyme ¾ teaspoon garlic salt ¾ teaspoon paprika ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper 3 pork tenderloins (¾ pound each) 4 teaspoons lemon-pepper seasoning 4 teaspoons fennel seed, crushed Directions 1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Ingredients 2 boneless, skinless turkey breasts Kosher salt Freshly ground black pepper 4 tablespoons butter 1 cup panko breadcrumbs ¼ cup thyme leaves 3 tablespoons sage 2 cups parsley leaves 6 cloves garlic ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes ¼ cup vegetable oil Directions 1. Butterfly breasts crosswise, being sure not to cut all the way through.
