Riding the Waves of Life

Body
We want to believe that everything lasts. We last. Our loved ones last. We feel that today is forever . But the truth is that the sea of life is more like experiencing wave upon wave of change and uncertainty, everything shifting around us and causing us to lose our footing. As we are pulled under the waves, we gulp the salty brine and come up gasping for air, unsure of who we are anymore, where we are, or if we're now all alone.

“Religion Simply Does Not Work”

Body
Religion. Being good enough for God to accept us. Many do turn to religion… trying to always behave and say the perfect things. So that hopefully, their holy God will be obliged to help them handle the fears and horrible problems in life. But down deep, each of us know ourselves well enough to have to admit, “Being perfect all the time - that just ain’t possible!”

After a workout in the gym there is nothing like a refreshing drink of water. The highlight of jogging in the hot sun in downtown Tulsa is coming into our condo and taking a cool, refreshing shower. There is something special about the properties of water in how it refreshes both the outside and the inside. Taking in deep gulps of water from a refrigerated container hits the throat and takes away the dry, parched craving. Stepping under the shower head with hot, sweaty skin, allowing the cool water to flow over your body revives and rejuvenates.

God is Good! Psalm 118:24 (NKJV) tells us: “24This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” There is a story in Mark 4 about how when Jesus and His disciples were on a boat crossing the sea and a great windstorm arose, and the boat is taking on water. As you recall, Jesus is asleep on a pillow, and the disciples wake Him and ask, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” After all the time they had spent with Him, they still ask the question: “.

“Check Your Fly, Preacher!”

Body
A goodhearted momma once approached her well-known and popular pastor after he had completed a stirring message that Sunday morning. She gently introduced herself and then told him, “My son is studying to be a minister at So-and-So Seminary nearby. What is a good piece of advice that you would give him about preparing to preach?” The older and very experienced minister hesitated, looked down into her earnest face and then said, “Madam, before I step into the pulpit, I always check my fly!”

Learning to Become Stronger

Body
What do we do with grief? How do we handle a tornado called "Death" that has ripped through your family? Why are you left numb and stunned? We are not sure we will ever be the same. Not sure we will ever want to be the same. Well, in reality, we won't ever be the same as we were. It's impossible. But hopefully we will be stronger. Yes, that is possible. We know of loved ones who are living testimonies to that.

Real Cowboys

Body
Working cowboys wore wide-brimmed hats that combined features of the Mexican sombrero and the hats worn by both sides in the Civil War. Cowboys wore cotton bandannas to wipe off sweat and protect their eyes and nose from dust.
