Normagene Nichols, born Dec. 18, 1948, to Bruce and Martha Ervin in Brook, Indiana, departed this life on Aug. 25, 2026, at the age of 77.
Normagene spent her youth in Indiana and graduated from South Newton High School. She first married Charles “Bud” O’Neil and shared life with him as a pastor’s wife until his passing. On May 23, 1992, she married Charles Nichols, and together they enjoyed 18 years of love and companionship before his passing on Dec. 30, 2010.
A woman of quiet joys and gentle hobbies, Normagene loved reading her Bible, working puzzles, coloring, and quilting. Her hands were always busy creating something meaningful, especially the baby quilts she lovingly made for each of her nieces and nephews. She adored animals, and her beloved dog Jimmy held a special place in her heart. She also enjoyed singing and listening to Gospel Music.
She is survived by three siblings: Gerald Ervin, Karen McAfee, and Sally Boozer; along with numerous nieces and nephews who cherished her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Charles “Bud” O’Neil; her second husband, Charles Nichols; and siblings Frances Logan, Charles Ervin, and George Ervin.
Normagene’s life was marked by kindness, devotion, and a gentle love for family.
Her legacy lives on in the quilts she stitched, the memories she created, and the hearts she touched.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.,Wednesday, Sept, 2, 2026 at the Hutchins Maples Matherly Funeral Chapel with interment following at Sunrise Cemetery in Kellyville.
