Over the weekend, community members braved the heat, mosquitos, chiggers, and ticks to pick up litter in and around the Bristow Nature Trails. About a dozen volunteers fanned out throughout the day Saturday, naturally wandering along different trails and variations of them. More than 60 gallons of trash in total was removed from the trails and surrounding areas.

Volunteers included Tanya with Sherman the dog, Ellie, Linda, Mandy, Travis Pearson and family: Paden, Pixxie, Pistol, and Payne, and several anonymous friends and individuals. A couple of the volunteers do not live in the Bristow area but visit the community often, enjoy the lake and trails, and shop in Bristow. When they observed litter in the area and the volunteers collecting it, they asked for bags and busied themselves for the cause.

Although the group was unable to sort out recyclables during this litter removal event, future events will allow for sorting and storage of any recyclables retrieved for Replenysh recycling collections, providing additional environmental, health and safety, and charitable community benefits.

Litter removal events will recur throughout the year in a variety of locations within the community. Bristow Community Connection will provide trash bags and gloves. If you missed last weekend’s litter removal event, feel free to grab a bag and pick it up as you walk or form a group yourself. Anyone is welcomed to join future events.
