“Blind Date with a Book”

To ignite a love of reading in us all, our Bristow Library invited us to embark on a “Blind Date with a Book” during the month of February. Luckily for us, they have decided to continue the blind dating book service through March!

Desiring a change or to perk up the mundane? “Blind Date with a Book” gives us the chance to experience new genres and ideas, authors, and escapades as we choose our books blindly and head off into isolated corners with a comfy blanket, warm cocoa, lamplight, and our imaginations. These blind dates offer us opportunities to leap into stories and adventures we may not have otherwise chosen, whisking us away for free vacations, anytime and anywhere.

Choosing a book for a blind date can be as simple as calling or emailing the library to reserve a book for curbside or inperson pick up, or we can go into the library to choose our own book. Library Director Megan Goff wrapped books in brown paper, hiding all identifying information, and labeled each one with its own unique “dating profile” to aid us in choosing our blind dates. Entering the north door of the library, we encounter the “Blind Date with a Book” display. We reach out, take a book, and find ourselves on our way to a mysterious date where excitement awaits!

For novice and avid readers alike, getting into the car and ripping away the paper to unveil the title is thrilling! If you are interested in participating and going on a blind date with a book, contact or visit the library anytime now through March 31st.
