A Joke Goes Awry

A frog decided to play a joke on a mouse. The mouse was looking for a way to cross the pond. The frog suggested, “Let me help you. If you tie your foot to my foot, I can tow you across the pond as I swim.” The mouse was afraid to do this but finally agreed because the frog seemed to be sincere in his desire to help.

They were in the middle of the pond when the frog decided to tease the mouse just a little by diving under the water. He dipped under dragging the poor mouse with him. The mouse struggled to get free, but he could not even chew the rope that tied their legs together because it would mean opening his mouth under the water. He panicked and thrashed about.

An eagle saw the splashing and dived down to the pond and picked up the frog and the mouse from the water. As they got over the land, the mouse was able to chew the rope and he scampered away unharmed. The frog, however, became the eagle’s lunch. Some jokes can be harmful.
