Are You Feeling Alone?

The young man posted on Facebook that he was feeling worthless. People were not coming around like they once did. He felt that they were lying to him. He wondered why he was alive.

Are you feeling alone? This is the loneliest time of year, especially for the elderly. When people living in or confined to a nursing home see others being visited by family and friends, they become sad. No one comes to visit them. No one comes over to hug them. They feel alone. Worthless. “Why am I even alive?

Some people fear dying alone. They wonder what their final moments will be like, and that final moment of loneliness comes crashing in around them.

Are you feeling alone? You don’t have to wonder about your final breath. You don’t have to worry about leaving this life alone. When your loneliest time seems to come crushing in on you, there is a way of comfort. You can enjoy a “peace that passes all understanding” (Philippians 4:7).

What does the Lord say? “He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you, nor will I ever forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). This is an Old Testament quote that is found in several sections of Scripture. It is a promise of God! Are you ever truly alone?

When the most troubling moments confront you, please consider how God has spoken to His faithful people. “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6). When the enemy approaches, rather than shrinking in fear, try trusting the Lord God.

King David wrote a beautiful affirmation of God’s presence wherever we are. Please read and consider the deep message of this writing.

“My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written. The days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.” (Psalms139:15-16)

The Lord God has known you since before you were born! He sees you now. He knows your feelings and thoughts. This is true for all people, even God’s worst enemy. You are never alone!

Notice in the last section of the Psalm: God has assigned a day for you to leave this life, even before your first breath. All people will one day pass from here to another realm. You will someday take your final breath in this life. He will never leave you, but you must choose Him.
