What’s Your Worst Nightmare?

Some people watch scary movies. They’re too scared to go camping, hiking, and enjoying the beautiful woods. Sure, all those night noises surrounding the tent are unsettling, but why let a movie keep you from finding pleasure in God’s creation - - the woods? What’s your worst nightmare?

While the young couple was living in New York City their first year of marriage, several relatives from Oklahoma and Texas came to visit. Taking an aunt and uncle to the top of the World Trade Center in 1983, their uncle didn’t go near the thick windows. He couldn’t peer down to the street. Fear of falling – his worst nightmare – prevented him from seeing some of the most spectacular cityscapes in the world.

All the campers gathered at a large cross in a huge field. One little camper didn’t feel well once she was out there, and a counselor escorted her back to her cabin. They walked through the woods along the dark path when suddenly the couselor saw a snake slithering across their path.

He stopped the girl, guiding her away and behind the snake. They quietly stepped behind it, kept moving in the direction of camp, and safely went on their way. Whew! What’s your greatest fear?

Probably the number-one fear that people should have is something they may not even realize: Each of us will stand before the King of heaven and earth. Jesus says we must expect the unexpected.

”But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone” (Matthew 24:36). “Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming” (vs. 42). “For this reason you be ready too; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will” (vs. 44).

Even if people claim immunity from this event due to their not knowing or due to their failure to make Jesus their Lord, they will still face Him. “Therefore also God highly exalted Him and bestowed upon Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:8-10).

Everyone will one day confess Jesus is Lord and bow to Him. Jesus is the only one “in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:13-14). Your burden of sin can be taken away, and new life can come to you.

Your own Bible has the answers you need to know. Jesus has the answers for you. Turn to God today, so dying in your sins doesn't become your worst nightmare.
