July 24, 1961- May 25, 2024
Virgil Colegrove was born July 24, 1961 to Melvin Colegrove and Esterlene R. Smallwood in Norfolk,Virginia. He departed this life May 25, 2024 at the age of 62.
Soon after birth Virgil’s family made their way to Bristow where he remained a lifelong citizen. Virgil grew up attending Bristow Public Schools. Upon joining the workforce, he found himself in the oilfields of Oklahoma. Working in all facets of the industry made him a highly qualified and experienced hand but was most noted for his experience on drilling rigs. Virgil, a true Charlie brown fan, always had a smile. His worst days were overshadowed with his best. A goofball attitude along with a lighthearted comedic outlook brought joy and laughter to many; as friends and family came together for barbeques. Virgil hosted many and frequently used the “old Smoker”. He had an eye for classic cars; often attending car shows. As well as a love for collecting hot wheels and model hot rods. No love ran deeper than that for his family. Especially, his grandchildren.
Virgil is survived by his mom, Esterlene R. Smallwood; four children, Joshua Colegrove and wife Kasey, of Sand Springs; Mellisa Chandler and husband Chris, Cassie Colegrove and Elizabeth Colegrove, all of Bristow; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held 1 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2024 at Hutchins-Maples Matherly Chapel.
