September12, 1961 - January 31, 2024 Ricky Allen (Buckshot) Edmondson was born to James Levi Edmondson, Sr., and Leah Ann Francis Edmondson on Sept. 12, 1961, in Henryetta. He departed this life Jan. 31, 2024, at the age 62 years, four months, and 19 days at the family home in Gypsy, after a prolonged battle with cancer.

He and his family lived on Tiger Mountain, east of Henryetta, Oklahoma until 1968, when his family moved to Bristow.

He worked as a ranch hand, hauled hay, and did general farm and ranch work for several years. He loved camping, fishing, coon hunting, and playing sports, particularly baseball. In later years, he could be seen walking the backroads, south of Bristow and in the Gypsy area. Walking everywhere and nowhere; he loved to walk and when someone would stop and offer him a ride, he would say no, he just wanted to walk. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and going to stomp dances. His proudest moment was when he enlisted in the National Guard in 1979.

Although he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2022 and was now a paraplegic, confined to bed or a wheelchair, he never complained. He was always cheerful and optimistic, and his good nature was unbelievable under the circumstances.

A special moment for Ricky was the day he got his Mobility chair, or as he called it, his “Cadillac.” James took him and his “Cadillac” to the Bristow Western Heritage Days in 2023, where he promptly asked a woman in a wheelchair if she wanted to race. She said “Sure, line ‘em up.” They went racing down Main Street. She smoked him, but he had a wonderful time, and that is all that mattered. He came back after the race and said, “I need a bigger motor!”

Ricky is survived by his brother, James Edmondson, of the family home, and his children, Nathan Gaskins (Sarah), of Slick, Jamie Edmondson Smith (Jacson), of Tonkawa, Byron Edmondson (Madison), of Depew, James (J-Ray) Edmondson (Melanie), of Mason, Chris Gazaway (Haley), of Tulsa, Jadaya Edmondson, of Depew, Tressie Poston, (Johnny), of Bristow, Brandon Edmondson, of Depew; Brother, Alvin “Rusty” Edmondson; sister, Phyllis Edmondson Burks (Steve), of Sapulpa, and children, Stevie Burks, Jr., of Bristow, Brandi Burks, of Oklahoma, City, and Ashley Burks Fairless (Josh), of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; sister, Luwanda Edmondson Mason (Raymond), of Newby, and children, Brook Mason Jackson, (Arnold) of Newby, Jacob Mason, of Stillwater, and Adam Mason, of Newby; Mary Smith, of Elk City, Sally Mae Edmundson, Oklahoma City, Eliza Jane Shaver (Earl), of Claremore, Millie Harris, Lawton, and Uncle Bob Francis (Daisy), of Claremore.

He is preceded in death by his father, mother and sister, Betty Jo Edmondson, two nephews, Johnathan David Edmondson, Austin Levi Edmondson and niece, Mercedes Mason.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dawn Waggoner, his caregiver from day one and throughout the course of his illness.

Also, to Elara Caring Hospice Nurse, Danielle, for always going above and beyond with her excellent care of Ricky, and to Jackie, who could always make him laugh, while at the same time, complaining about having her help with his baths.

And many thanks to Phyllis and Steve Burks, for accompanying him to his treatments and doctors appointments and staying with him when needed; and thanks to niece, Tressie Poston for delicious breakfasts and helping to get him out of bed and into his “Cadillac,” making him dangerously mobile to dogs and walls.
