Norman Leonard Burgett, 1929 - 2020

Norman Leonard Burgett was born April 23, 1929, to John and Sylvia Burgett in Bristow. He departed this life Dec. 29, 2020,at the age of 91.

He graduated from Gypsy Public Schools.

On May 8, 1952, Norman Leonard Burgett and Hazel LaVern Wilson were united in marriage. From this union were born three children, Neal, Laura and Carrie. They enjoyed 64 years together before her passing May 11, 2016.

In his early years he worked in the oilfield on oil rigs. He then worked at W.C. Norris, a division of Dover Corporation for 30 years before retiring at the age of 62. He was short just four months of being retired 30 years.

He enjoyed traveling when his wife was still with us; he loved his grandbabies and riding around in his John Deere tractor and gator. He was very talented with woodwork. There was not anything he couldn’t make using his self-made sawmill.

He is survived by three children, Neal Burgett and wife Janet, Laura Bennett, Carrie Root and husband Chris; one sister, Margaret Keeter and husband Frank; grandchildren, Christina Rains and husband Wade, John Burgett and wife Angela, Andrea Burgett and Jason Hunter, Jarrod Burgett and wife Ashnie, Autumn Dobson and husband Tony Russell, Amanda Dobson and Jeremy Dobson; great grandchildren, Chokoda Gouglar and husband Hunter, Riley Rains, Colton Rains, Perry Burgett, Colt Burgett, Samantha Peeler, Erica Peeler, Gabe Peeler, Jayden Burgett, Jacob Burgett, Cadence Burgett, Landon Haskins and Lillie Russell; great great grandchildren, Sage Norman Gouglar, Bryson Gouglar and Mason on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Hazel Burgett, one sister, Betty Fenton and son in law, Henry Bennett.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 at the Welty Cemetery.
