Body

Our loving mom, Martha Jean Bookout was born June 9, 1931, to Emmitt and Letha Moody in Verden, Oklahoma. She departed this life Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, at her home in Depew at the age of 89 years, six months and one day.

On Sept. 17, 1947, Calvin Bookout and Martha Jean Moody were united in marriage. To this union were born five children, Diana, Dennis, Donna, Daryl and David. They enjoyed 70 years together before his passing Dec. 27, 2017.

She had made Depew her home since 1951. She retired from Miss Elaine’s Garment factory after 32 years. She was a faithful member of the Depew United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed cooking, and was known for her chocolate rolls, peach cobbler, fried pies and homemade bread just to name a few. Christmas was always special; she made a tea towel with her chocolate roll recipe. She also took the time to plant cotton so she could make ornaments for her family. Her hobbies included fishing, gardening, Oklahoma Sooner Football and Oklahoma City Thunder basketball, finding bargains and going to garage sales. She also enjoyed attending her grandkids school events as well going on Casino bus trips with her friends. In July of 2019, she moved into the Prairie Point Assisted Living Center in Stroud. She enjoyed the activities and friendships made while there. Martha will especially be remembered for her unselfish spirit. At family gatherings, she wanted to make sure everyone else had their plate before she sat down to eat.

Martha is survived by five children, Diana Allred and husband Gary, of Stroud, Dennis Bookout and wife Pam, of Edmond, Donna Gerner and husband David, of Pensacola, Florida, Daryl Bookout and wife Terri, of Depew, David Bookout and wife Lisa, of Tahlequah; one sister, Sue Miri of Los Angeles, California; 20 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and three great greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Ed Moody and Anthony Moody.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at the Oakdale Cemetery, Depew, Oklahoma with Reverend Kip Wright officiating.
