Johnny Lee Spencer was born on October 12, 1942 in Slick, Oklahoma to William and Fannie (Robinson) Spencer. Johnny graduated from Bristow High School in 1960, and served in the United States Air Force.

After discharging from the Air Force, he returned to Bristow where he owned and operated a Phillips 66 gas station on the corner of 11 th & Main Street in Bristow for many years, and later he owned and operated a DX station on the corner of 10 th & Main, but he spent the majority of his working career in the grocery business. He owned and operated 7-11 convenience stores in Bristow and Beggs and later he became the owner of a Hesselbein Tire store as well as being an investor in a car repair company. During that time, he developed strong community ties, and he was involved in the Rotary Club, Elks Lodge and the Lions Club. After retiring from the grocery business, he was employed by SpiritBank where he remained until his retirement due to an automobile accident in 2013.

Johnny was a lover of all animals but his greatest joy was being involved in the horse industry. He enjoyed many days working with his horses, going to horse racing tracks throughout the United States and always looking for that special horse. Johnny was also an avid OU fan, holding season tickets for many years. Heat, cold, rain, and snow would not keep him from being in his seat cheering the Sooners to victory.

Johnny and Linda (Williams) met in 1978 and were later married in Drumright Oklahoma in Judge Charles Woodson’s chambers. Johnny promised that she wouldn’t have a boring life with him, and fulfilled that promise many times. Through good and adversity, they stood together until he kissed her good-bye for the last time.

Johnny passed away on March 31, 2024 from complications due to a fall sustained in January. He is survived by his wife Linda, his children, Johnny Neil Spencer (Colby) of Flower Mound, Texas, Angela Ruth Spencer of Flower Mound, Texas, and Stephen Spencer (Katie) of Guthrie, Oklahoma. Grandchildren include Blake Spencer (Kelsey), Tyson Spencer (Mackenzie), Kealee Spencer, Berkley Kern, Hudson Kern, Gracie Spencer, Isla Spencer and Addisyn Wilson. He is also survived by great granddaughters, Blakeley and Maisyn Spencer. Johnny always said family was not defined by blood, and sometimes we get to pick our family, and he did that when he brought Christopher Coatsworth (Taylor) who blessed him with Cole and Riley, (whom he considered grandchildren) and, Lily Leung of Hong Kong into the family. Johnny is also survived by his brothers, Edgar Spencer of Bristow, and Leon Spencer (Carolyn) of Guthrie, sister-in-law, Shirley Sizemore of Mannford, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Billy Sizemore, Sr.; sister-in-law, Nancy Spencer; nephews, Michael Spencer, David Spencer and Bill Sizemore, Jr.
