Mr. Jerry Cumbus, of Bristow, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, at the age of 87.
Jerry was born to parents Joseph and Eula Cumbus on Feb. 16, 1933, in Montgomery, Alabama. Jerry was the youngest of three brothers. Jerry grew up in Alabama and would later graduate from Auburn University with a degree in Industrial Design. After college, Jerry worked in the design department of General Motors in Detroit, Michigan, where he would play a significant role in the design of the iconic 1963-1966 Corvette. Jerry would later move to the San Francisco Bay area where he founded and ran his design firm, Design Center. Design Center’s services would span branding, logo, packaging, and architectural services for products that still bare his work today.
Jerry later relocated to Oklahoma where he would write as an automotive journalist using his expertise in automotive technology to entertain readers for the next 25 years before retiring to Bristow.
Jerry was a veracious reader and a lover of art, design, and music (being particularly fond of jazz). Of all his interests and accomplishments, none were as important to him as his family. Jerry is survived by his wife, Jimmie; his step-son Jacob; and his grandchildren.
