Gloria Ellen Chapman, 87, of Bristow, passed away peacefully from this life on Feb. 28, 2021, at her home.

Gloria was born on July 10, 1933, in Cleveland, Oklahoma, the daughter of Forrest and Billie (Griggs) Mahan. Gloria attended school in Cleveland where she later graduated with the Class of 1951. Following high school Gloria worked at REC in Cleveland and also took business classes in Tulsa. After the love of her life Frank Chapman graduated high school, the couple was united in marriage on June 14, 1952. Following their marriage the two moved to Stillwater, and furthered her education at Oklahoma A&M College. After one semester her education was interrupted by pregnancy. Gloria and Frank later moved to Oklahoma City. They later moved to Tulsa before moving to Pinneville, Louisiana in 1962. In 1963, Gloria and Dr. Frank returned to Cleveland, Oklahoma. In 1964, they moved to Bristow, where she has continued to reside.

Gloria was a very active part of the Bristow Community and First United Methodist Church. She served as a volunteer at the hospital, and longtime Jaycee Janes member. They were instrumental in the restoration of the Downtown Theater and swimming pool renovation in Bristow. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, a choir member, and enjoyed playing the piano. Gloria also enjoyed going hunting and fishing with Dr. Frank and was an avid skeet and target shooter. Gloria also took great pride in choosing the right racehorse. However, her favorite thing to do was having her family over to their home. She especially loved it when her grandkids would visit.

Survivors include her four children Matthew Chapman and his wife Susan, of Tahlequah, Ben Chapman and his wife Melissa, of Sapulpa, Frank Chapman II and his wife Leona, of Burwick, Louisiana, Debbie Chapman-DeJarnett and her husband David, of Collinsville; granddaughter Rachel Purdy, of Cornelius, North Carolina; three great grandchildren Seth and AnaClaire Purdy, of Cornelius, North Carolina, Liam Chapman, of Franklin, Louisiana and a host of other relatives and friends that will mourn her passing.

Preceded in death by her parents Forrest and Billie Mahan, husband Dr. Frank Chapman; brother Max Mahan, grandson Frank Chapman III and a granddaughter Mindy Ellen Mattox.

Graveside services were held 11 a.m., Thursday, March 4, 2021, at the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland. Tim Busch officiated. Chapman-Black Funeral Home was entrusted to the arrangements. Friends and family may visit an online guest book and memorial page for Gloria at www.chapman-black.com.
