On Monday, April 27, 1953, God blessed Florence and Julius Wooley with a healthy baby girl in which they named Ernestine (Steamboat) Wooley.

Ernestine graduated from Morningside High School and went on to study at Los Angeles Trade Tech. She married, and from that union she had Christine L. Thompson-Rivera. Ernestine couldn’t stand to be away from her daughter, so she became a teacher, with a career spanning over 30 years.

In 1983 she met the love of her life, Michael Reed Sr. and was joined in marriage in February of 1992. Ernestine returned to school receiving her bachelor’s degree in education from Cal State Los Angeles. Ernestine worked for LAUSD at 112th Street Early Childhood Development Center for over 20 years. She loved her students and co-workers. She became an ordained minister in the year 2000. She enjoyed puzzles, playing dominos and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Florence and Julius Wooley and her husband, Michael Reed Sr. She is survived by one brother, Lawrence Wooley Sr. of Palmdale, California; Daughter, Christine L. Rivera and husband Anthony Rivera Sr. of Bristow, Oklahoma; Grandchildren, Chyna Thompson and Sir Christopher Rivera Sr.; one great grandson, Sir Christopher Rivera Jr. as well as many nieces and nephews and a host of friends she adored.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00AM, Friday, September 3, 2021 at the New International Worship Center. Interment will follow at the Bristow City Cemetery. Condolences can be sent to www.hutchinsmaplesfuneralhome.com
