Edward Lawrence Bishop Jr.

October 29, 1931 - January 17, 2023

Edward Lawrence Bishop Jr. was born Oct. 29, 1931 to Ed and Ethel Bishop in Bristow. He departed this life Jan. 17, 2023 at the age of 91 years.

Eddie was a 1951 graduate of Bristow High School. He was very active in school sponsored activities; especially, the High School band where he served as drum major.

Playing the snare drum continued to be a lifelong pastime. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. Upon his return to Bristow, Eddie went to work as a butcher at the family grocery store on main street. Later Eddie and his brother David started Bishop Brother’s Tabouli packaging and distribution company in the early 1960’s until he sold the business in 2014. Even though he was retired he made sure that the nurses and doctors the last weeks of his life knew about Bishop Brother’s Tabouli in Bristow, Oklahoma. He never grew tired of talking about tabouli and Bristow the town that he loved. Hunting and fishing filled his earlier years then, along came prospecting for gold in the Colorado Rockies. His love for prospecting spawned many trips and unforgettable moments with his friends Bill Carmen and Leroy Eslick. Eddie, being well known around town could most likely be found visiting with friends at the local coffee shop. His home was always open and his back porch ready for sitting anytime family and friends stopped for a visit; which he thoroughly loved and enjoyed. Having two of his great-grandchildren Parker and Ty Bishop living next door for several years was an added bonus.

Eddie is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sue of the home; three children, Mike Bishop and wife Jody, of Bristow, Pam Schook and husband Tim, of Mountain Grove, Missouri and Danny Bishop and wife Karen, of Broken Arrow; daughter-inlaw, Elaine Bishop, of Sedalia, Missouri; three step children, Allan, Jeff and Larry Alcorn; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Bishop, Michael Bishop Jr, Jessica Montgomery and husband Brennan, Jason Bishop and wife Brittney, Brad Bishop and wife Kelsey; Britt Bellante anusband Sam, Tyler Hodgson and wife Jamie, Stephen Bishop, two step-grandchildren, Tim Schook and Tanna Blazier and 15 great-grandchildren; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ethel Bishop; first wife, Harvey Lee Holt; son, Edward L. Bishop; daughter-in-law Cleta Ann Bishop; brother, David Bishop and two sisters, June Springer and Joyce Morgan.
