Coy Wayne Adair was born Sept. 25, 1931, to John and Gladys Adair in Stilwell. He departed this life July 26, 2022, at the age of 90 years, 10 months and one day.

Coy grew up in and around the Stilwell area. He was a graduate of Stilwell High School who, upon graduating went on to serve faithfully and honorably in the United States Navy from 1949 to 1953. When released from his duties, Coy attended Northeastern State University completing his studies in 1958. He and Billie Lowe were married in May of 1955. Coy and Billie were blessed with four children who gave them a full, happy home. Coy began his 35 plus year elementary teaching career in Gypsy. His career would take him to Milfay where he taught and coached, retiring after teaching four generations of families. He had a passion for reading and knew the importance of books in the classroom and home. He had a deep love for basketball and gave many years coaching, passing on that love to many. When he was not coaching, he was watching any televised game. Dallas Cowboys football always got his attention and he followed them closely. Being an avid fan of John Wayne, because who wouldn’t be, he knew his movies well and could find a life lesson in nearly all of them. He lived his Christian faith, daily, in his actions and deeds toward others, but his greatest joy was his family. Coy loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved to be outdoors working in his yard and gardening.

Coy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Billie of the home; four children, Gail Griffin and husband Gerre, Randy Adair, Cindy Adair, and David Adair and wife Monica; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Atha Roller and Stella Mae Green.

Funeral services were held 10 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2022, at Milfay School Gym. He was laid to rest at New Hope Cemetery in Stilwell.
