Carl Clay West was born on March 7, 1957 in Tahlequah, to Calvin Coolidge West and Agnes (Fixico) West. He passed away at home in Okmulgee on October 14, 2023 with family surrounding him. He was 66 years of age.

Carl will be reunited with his parents, Calvin and Agnes West; grandparents, George and Bessie (Anderson) West, Sarah Holahta and Willie Fixico; son, Carl (C.J.) West, Jr.; grandbaby West, brother, David West; sisters, Wanda West and Kathleen West; nephew, James West; niece, Sarah Beth West; and nephew, Eric Noon.

Those left to cherish memories of Carl (The Duke) West, wife, Barbara of the Okmulgee home; sons, Brandon West of Bristow and Michael West of the Okmulgee home; grandsons, Mason Jai West and Colby Coolidge West, of Wagoner; granddaughter Peyton Elise West, of Ada; brothers Parnell (Sonny) West and Mesulta of Davenport, George Harvey West and Lucille, of Spencer; sisters, Nancy West Watson, of Welty, Katherine and Janell West, of Okemah, many nieces, nephews; an aunt, Helen Holahta; an uncle, Benny Fixico; many cousins; mother and fatherin- law, Newman and Lydia Taryole; brothers-in-law, Norman (Bungie) Taryole and Newman Taryole, Jr. and sister-in-law, Natalie (Taryole) Hogner and many friends.

Carl was baptized at an early age at Prairie Springs Church and rededicated his life to Pastor Wayne Harjo and Oscar Hicks in September of 2023. Carl went to Mason High School where he met Barbara Taryole. They were married on Oct. 10, 1975 in Okemah.

Through the years, Carl worked in many occupations; he worked construction the most. He worked as a Bingo caller in Bristow and Tulsa. In his earlier years, he played baseball, softball and basketball. He also coached an AAU team. Later, he played Cornhole and enjoyed having tournaments. His favorite teams in football are the OSU Cowboys, and Dallas Cowboys, but he enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs. He loved to go fishing but was unable to in later years. He also kept in contact with his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews by phone. He had also served as Vice-Chairman and Sargeant of Arms for Okmulgee Indian Community and was Post Commander for the American Legion, in Kiefer.

Wake Services were held Tuesday, 7 pm, Oct. 17, 2023 at Buckeye Creek Baptist Church. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, 1 pm, Oct. 18, 2023 also at Buckeye Creek Baptist Church. Interment followed at the West-Anderson Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Wayne Harjo and Oscar Hicks.

Pallbearers are David (Joe) West, Kenric West, Dereck West, Chris West, Matthew West, and Joseph Hill. Honorary Pallbearers are George Harvey West, Parnell (Sonny) West, Norman Taryole (Bungie) Newman Taryole, Jr., Thomas Barnett and Tyrone Barnett.
