Barbara Jean Fortney, 1946 - 2020

Barbara Jean Fortney was born Aug. 4, 1946, to Johnnie and Lillian Smith in Ardmore. She departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, at the age of 74.

She graduated from Cherokee High School. On Dec. 26, 1965, Barbara Jean Moss and Lewis Fortney were united in marriage in Cherokee, Oklahoma. They enjoyed nearly 43 years together before his passing on May 2, 2008. They were reunited in heaven on their 55th wedding anniversary.

After working at Kwikset for 15 years, she decided to devote her full attention to the family pool construction business. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, camping, fishing, cookouts and spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends.

She is survived by one son, Jody Fortney and his wife, Tiffany Fortney; one daughter, Kristy Jurko; one half-sister, Pamela Moss; three grandchildren, Devin Jurko, Kyran Fortney and Kynlee Murphy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Robert Moss, husband, son, Michael Fortney, father-in-law, H.L. Fortney, mother-in-law, Ellen Fortney, and brother-inlaw, LeRoy Fortney.

Funeral services are Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, at Hutchins-Maples Matherly Funeral Chapel with Reverend Gene Jackson, officiating. Interment will be in Magnolia Memorial Gardens, Bristow.
