Two local Bristow girls, Emarie Darrough, age 14, and Audrey Darrough, age 11, had the honor of displaying their artwork at the Philbrook Museum of Art, in Tulsa, during the museum's “Big Show”. The show runs from March 12 thru May 8, 2022.
The Big Show is quite an undertaking by the museum, and celebrates the creativity of young people. The show features approximately 3,000 works of art from artists, ages four through 18. The only stipulation the young artists had to follow was that their finished work must measure no larger than 12 inches by 12 inches. So the young artists can let their imagination run wild and every artists who submits a piece of art is able to display it during the Big Show.
In addition to thousands of pieces of artwork that are on display, visitors young and old can contribute to the show. The wall and floor in one area of the space is covered with special materials which visitors may try their hand at a piece of artwork. There is also a reading area, along with other hands on art projects. Visitors can not only view the great artwork, but can just sit and read a book or make some art of their own or just hang out for the day and enjoy the art on display. Binoculars are placed around the exhibit area so you can get a better look at the art that is hanging up high or you can see a video of young artist explaining their approach to their artwork.
