The Bristow City Council held a special meeting Thursday, Aug. 19, for the purpose of discussing impovements planned for the Bristow City Swimming pool.
A presentation was given by Dana Schuler Drummond and Susan Pierce, of Sharp Shooter Communications, to the council, regarding a grant they are working on to help with the improvements planned for the pool. The grant is for the amount of $500,000 with the city matching that amount. Drummond stated that in order for the grant to be approved, the city would need the community's support ralling behind them to get the pool up and running.
Drummond said she was confident that the grant would be approved this time around. A grant was submitted last year but was later denied, although the community support was an overwhelming 72 percent in April when the community voted for and supported a bond ordinance for capital improvements for Public Parks and Public Lands. The ordiance read as folllows: Ordinance No: 162- 020121 adopted by the city council of the City of Bristow, on the 1st day of Feb., 2021, which ordinance levies and assesses a sales tax of one half of one percent (½ percent) to take effect on the 1st day of July, 2021 and ending July 1, 2031, upon the gross receipts or proceeds on certain sales as herein defined for the purpose of providing revenues for capital improvements for Public Parks and Public Lands, Cultural, and Recreational Facilities, defining terms, prescribing procedures, remedies, lien and fixing penalties and fixing an effective date be approved. Drummond said that she felt this time, the grant would receive a land slide approval and she and Peirce would do whatever they could to help make this happen.
The board unanimouly approved for Drummond and Pierce to move forward with the submission of the grant which is due by Sept. 30, 2021. Another pubic meeting, for the purpose of discussing improvements to the city pool, will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021 at 7 p.m.
