Xavier Bigpond, is a junior at Bristow High School and a part of the Pirates’ football and wrestling teams. Recently, Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi collaborated in making the first ever full Native cast about Native people. They wanted to break the stereotype by making a show about Native kids experiencing real life while having a comedic take on it. Harjo put a flyer on the internet asking for Native kids to audition for the show. The auditions were held in Tulsa.
Bigpond has always been an outgoing person and decided he wanted to audition. His mother, Brooke Bigpond, took him, along with some of his siblings, to the auditions. Bigpond was a hit in his audition making everyone laugh. Bigpond, with his talent, landed the role of Weeze, a cousin to Jackie (leader of the “Bad Guy Gang”) who are rivals to the four main characters. The “Bad Guy Gang” characters are all from Oklahoma and are all acting in their first roles.
The show was mainly filmed in Okmulgee and had its premiere on Aug. 9, 2021 on Hulu. If you look closely you may see other area people you may know like Jarrett Hogner who plays an extra at the beginning of the show. Keep an eye out for “Reservation Dogs” on Hulu to catch a glimpse of Bigpond, our very own Bristow Pirate, acting in his first ever TV series.
