The city council met on Tuesday evening instead of-Monday, due to the 4th of July holiday falling on Monday. The council faced agenda items ranging from claims to abatements. The board discussed and considered possibel approval to award a bid submitted for a preassembled columbarium and possible action to reject bids that were submitted for the swimming pool rehab expansion.
The board faced several abatements. Abatements are placed on properties that have been allowed to run down due to high weeds, trash, and debris and/or delapidated buildings. The first property up for discussion is located at 914 S. Walnut, owned by Margie Parson. The property is being abated for both weed, trash and debris and delapidated buidings. Also up for consideration of abatements for the same is property located at 915 S. Poplar, owned by Helen Marie Terry; and property located at 209 W. 12th, owned by Nona Wright or Betty Jo Cobbs. Other properties up for consideration of abatement for weeds, trash and debris is property located at 414 S. Elm, owned by Janice Scott and Larry Harjo; property located at 606 S. Poplar, owned by Angela Kay Ogg; property located at 502 S. Walnut, owned by Peak illinois Properties LLC; and property located at 416 S. Walnut, owned by Michael and Dorothy Johnson.
The council held an executive session to discuss the employment of Lane Hinman for the fire department.
On the municipal side of the meeting the board discussed and considered various claims before moving on to the hospital authority side of the meeting where the council approved the minutes for the June 20 meeting then discussed and considered action regarding capital improvements to the hospital, doctor's building and therapy builidng, all being operated by Carrus Lakeside Hospital.
The city council meets the first and third Wednesday of each month. The public is always welcome to attend.
