A couple of new city ordinances are set to go into effect soon. The City of Bristow is introducing a new ordinance that requires all motorized power chairs, which are used outside private property, to be equipped with safety flags. This will help to improve the visibility of the chairs to drivers and will ensure safe travels to the power chairs destination. This has not gone into effect yet but soon will. If you have any questions, contact city hall for more information.
The second ordinance, Ord. # 191-041524, will take effect May 15, 2024, allowing chickens, conditionally, inside the city limits. A permit will be required and certain conditions will have to be met. No more than six chickens or laying hens and 10 chicks will be allowed per parcel. Roosters are not allowed. Chickens must be kept in a designated chicken coop and chicken run. The coop/run must be located in the rear or backyard of the residential property. Absolutely no part of the coop shall be located in the front yard. The coop must be set back no less than 10 percent of the lot width from any side property line and no less that 25 feet from any dwelling unit other than the owner's. The coop must be predatory resistant. Water must be provided on site and accessible to chickens. Chicken enclosures must be kept clean to prevent accumulation of food, fecal matter and nesting materials from creating a nuisance or condition due to odor, vermin, debris or decay. Outdoor slaughter of chickens is prohibited. Electrical and heat sources for chickens will have to comply with the city's building codes. Any person keeping chicken's inside the city limits must obtain a permit yearly.
