Bristow Take-Back event a success

Body
A recent medication takeback event was held in Bristow in partnership with the Bristow Police Department, Creek County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, and Oklahoma State Department of Wellness Programs. Although the event was held on a very cold day of the year, we collected 28 pounds of medication. According to the CDC, you should dispose of unused or expired prescription medicine as soon as possible. Timely disposal of prescription medicine can reduce the risk of others taking the medication accidentally or misusing the medication intentionally. One of best and most environmentally friendly ways to dispose of your prescription medicine is through a take-back event or at a medication drop-box. You can find local medication drop boxes at the Bristow Police Department and Kemps Drug & Gifts. For more information about safe disposal please feel free to contact K'Cee Scoggins at kcee.scoggins@okstate.edu.

Responsible Alcohol Service

Body
It is the holiday season which brings about many get-togethers and parties. As a seller or server of alcohol, it is crucial to be vigilant and practice responsible services and sales. The law states that someone showing signs of intoxication cannot be served or sold alcohol. Also, all alcohol business licensees cannot allow intoxicated people to stay on the property. Policies on handling such issues are important and can decrease the chances of charges, fines, or lawsuits. Also, youth out of school or college may attempt to purchase alcohol or be served in bars or restaurants. Businesses need to ensure that all employees can properly check identifications. Here are some examples of policies from Oklahoma's Responsible Alcohol & Hospitability Alliance to incorporate for your business: Ask for identification from anyone that looks under 30 years of age Ask for identification from all customers purchasing alcohol (golden rule) Document any time customers are cutoff or denied sales Serve one drink per customer in bars/restaurants at a time.
