Old man winter came in with a bang last week, with dangerously cold temperatures, rain, sleet, snow and ice. Luckily the community of Bristow didn't see as much snow and ice as other areas where a total of 8 inches of snow was received. Bristow with approximately 5 inches. As the powdery snow fell, and being the actual first heavy snow this season, kids, being kids, wanted to go out and play, sledding and making snow angels. The area kids have a great place where they gather for sledding or tubing, Lake Massena. Sledding down a hill which ends at a street is not a good idea. A 12 year old boy, from Broken Arrow, lost his life while sledding doing just that. He slid underneath a pickup truck and was ran over by the back tire. Within an hour another youngster was doing the same thing when he hit the side of a car. The car drug him approximately 20 feet before coming to a stop. He was lucky, receiving only minor injuries. Since the groundhog says we are having six more weeks of winter, and the possibility that the community just might see another storm, like this one go through before Spring opens its doors. Sledding is fun and brings smiles to everyone’s faces who participates , but remember to always be safe and think about the safety of everyone around you.
