On Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, around 2 a.m.. a fatality collision occurred on the Turner Turnpike westbound lane, just west of Bristow, three miles east of Depew. Pedro Vasquez, age 68, from Pennsylvania, along with his passenger and team driver, Laurence Harbo, age 43, from New Jersey, was driving a 2016 Freightliner tractor westbound on the Turner Turnpike.
Lorenzo Wheeler, age 49, of Tulsa, for some unknown reason was crossing the turnpike when he was struck by the freight liner. Wheeler succumbed at the scene and was pronounced by Creek County EMS and the Creek County Sheriff's office. He was transported to the medical examiners office in Tulsa. Vasquex and Harbo were not injured but the freightliner was towed due to damage to the vehicle.
