Over one hundred six dogs and three chicken's lives were saved Sunday afternoon. A Bristow animal rescue organization spent most of Sunday afternoon saving over 106 animals lives.

Animal advocates with Bristow Barnyard Rescue did a welfare check and ended up seizing over 106 dogs and three chickens from an uninhabitable home in the Bristow area, located on West 211th Street South. The rescuers were given permission from Lighthorse Police to remove the animals from the home.

Roberts, founder of Bristow Barnyard Rescue, said this isn't the first time they had visited the residence. She contacted the owner around three years ago and offered assistance but the homeowner refused any help. A few years later, someone spoke up. Police granted a warrant and the organizations stepped in to save the neglected and abused animals. Roberts claimed she was in tears when she saw these animals suffering. She had not realized the severity of the situation.

It has been reported that the rescuers found dead puppies inside plastic bags, stored in a barn freezer. Upon searching the property, dogs were allegedly discovered in bushes, hiding in drawers and lying in feces. Some of the animals were suffering from internal and external parasites, some with limb injuries and bloody skin lesions. Six puppies were allegedly stuck inside a matress which had to be ripped apart to get the puppies out.

Ruth Steinberger, executive director of Spay First, said that hoarding is sad but it is not uncommon. Steinberger feels that Oklahoma needs better animal cruelty laws. The situation at this residence was just horrible.

The rescue is accepting donations to help with the medical cost and care of these neglected animal. Donations can be dropped off at the rescue.
