Oklahoma sees 50,330 vaccines of COVID-19 administered

To date, Oklahoma has received 174,900 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and has administered 50,330 doses. Oklahoma is now moving into the second phase of its fourstep COVID-19 vaccination plan, but uncertain supplies and technological obstacles make it hard to predict how quickly or smoothly Phase 2 will unfold.

Oklahomans age 65 and older will begin receiving their vaccinations this week, and health officials announced Monday they plan to release a mobile phone application as early as Thursday that will allow residents to schedule an appointment to receive their vaccine.

The United States , as of Jan. 4, 2021, has seen 20,636, 663 confirmed cases of the virus and 351,580 have lost their lives to this deadly disease. Oklahoma is still surging with new daily cases reaching a staggering 306,771 confirmed cases since March 2021. Of the confirmed cases, 36,646 are still considered active. Creek County, as of Monday, Jan. 4, has reached 4,312 confirmed cases, of which 563 cases are considered to be active and reporting 66 deaths. Our own community of Bristow is still seeing increases daily. From Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020 to Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 the community saw an increase of 40 cases. Thursday a reported 593 cases and Monday that number increased to 633 confirmed cases.

Bristow Public Schools is continuing to do the best they possibly can to slow the spread of the virus. According to the school website, which because of the holidays, the numbers reported may have changed updated. Edison Elementary reports a total of 486 staff and students. Fortunately only one staff member has tested positive for the virus while 10 staff members are in close contact quarantine. On the student side, only one student has tested positive while 85 students are in close contact quarantine. Collins Elementary reporting a total of 324 students and staff. Four staff members are in close contact quarantine and one student testing positive and 25 close contact quarantined. Bristow Middle School reports 394 staff members and students. There has been no positive cases reported in the staff but one student testing positive and 20 student close contact quarantine. Bristow High School reports 402 staff and students. No staff members have been reported as positive, but two are in close contact quarantine while two high school students have tested positive with 17 students in close contact quarantine.
