In recent months, Bristow Fellowship Church of the Nazarene began hosting Lego Night for community children to meet for fun and socialization in a safe space. The event has been such a hit that the church plans to continue hosting the activity for the foreseeable future.

Planned for the fourth Saturday of each month, Lego Night begins at 4:30 p.m. and continues until 6:30 p.m. Marla McKeown, who serves as the church board secretary and music leader, noted that the church wanted to host a community activity in a safe space. They chose to utilize Lego build kits for children, who may play together as a group or independently, creating and making new friends through each experience.

Mrs. McKeown stated that the activity is free and build kits are provided for on-site play; however, all play materials must remain at the church for future building activities. Additionally, the church provides Thomas the Train and other train sets for children who may prefer trains to Legos. Since the children play and build with Lego bricks and train sets, age limits for participants have been set. Children aged four-years-old and up are eligible to attend and play freely. If younger siblings also attend and desire to play, parents and guardians are asked to attend and assist them.

In addition to making new friends and playing together, children receive dinner and snacks free of charge while attending the activity. Church volunteers supervise play and distribute kits and food to children in attendance. The church and volunteers want the community to know they are not teaching lessons or trying to convert children during events; instead, they simply want to offer the community a safe environment and fun, creative activity for its children.

Lego Night volunteers will be at the church each fourth Saturday for the event, but updates regarding inclement weather or unforeseen events necessitating closure will be posted on the church’s Facebook page. The page is titled “Bristow Fellowship Church of the Nazarene”.

The church’s most recent Lego Night occurred this past Saturday with the next event is set for Saturday, March 23, wrapping up Spring Break. Bristow Fellowship Church of the Nazarene is located on Chestnut Street between East 4th and 5th Avenues. Participants must enter the church through the south entrance on East 4th Avenue.
