Last week a woman was traveling on the Turner Turnpike near the construction zone in Stroud area when she noticed a man in a black truck driving beside her. She, at the time, didn't pay much attention to him. People drive beside you in the other lane all the time. After a little while, the black truck got behind her and turned on what appeared to be police lights. The woman pulled over and the man approached her car. He did not ask for a drivers license nor insurance verification but instead wanted her to go to his car to look at something. The woman, thinking this was somewhat strange, refused to get out of the car and could tell the man was becoming agitated. He pulled on the door handle of the car. When the woman reached for her phone and pepper spray he ran to his vehicle and took off. She described the man as dark complected, like an Asian man, wearing a dark shirt and pants with a hat. She did not notice a him wearing a badge. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol immediately posted on social media that they are actively investigating this incident. They are looking for a Black Nissan Truck with a rooftop-mounted light bar. If you see this vehicle, notify the OHP Communications Center at (405) 425-2323. The OHP says if you believe a police impersonator is stopping you, dial 911 immediately to confirm the legitimacy of the stop. When safe to do so take notes, vehicles color, markings, license plate, if possible, and the individual's clothing or badge. The OHP says one thing to remember is legitimate law enforcement officers understand public caution and will always prioritize your safety.
