If you were passing by Williams last week, you may have noticed a lot of activity in the store. Mike Rowe, with the television series Dirty Jobs has his on podcast and is making a documentary about a Russian leader named Boris Yeltsin, who visited a Randall’s grocery store back in 1989. Yeltsin contacted the Randall’s in Clear Lake, to see if he could tour the store. A Houston Chronicle reporter who tagged along that day said in an article that Yeltsin roamed the isles nodding his head in amazement. Yeltsin admitted that the visit made a profound impression on him. It cemented his growing view that the Soviet state-run economic system had left the Russian people far behind Americans, forcing them into a much lower standard of living and it set in motion a path that would lead Yelstin to become the figure that would lead Russia out of Communism.
