Alleyways Recently Named in Honor of Former Leaders

In January, the alleyway adjacent to Bristow Fire Department on its west side was named in honor of Bob Grant, following his passing. Two months later, the alleyway adjacent to Bristow Police Department on its east side was named in honor of Wayne Davis. Community members expressed respect of both leaders and appreciated the naming of the passages in their honor.

Carrus Lakeside Hospital Passed Hurdle to Accreditation

In the final week of March, Carrus Lakeside Hospital announced passage of its final hurdle to accreditation. The hospital announced the milestone on social media, saying “CLH is proud to announce that it passed with flying colors! CLH is honored to continue serving the Bristow community and surrounding areas.”

Ladies’ Bunco Night

Women of the Bristow Seventh-day Adventist Church will host “Bunco for Blessings” at 7 p.m. on the evening of April 4, at the Center of Hope, which is located at 102 North Main Street. The game fee is set at $5 with all proceeds set to be donated as a blessing to the Bristow Historical Society. Women are invited for a night of blessings, fun, fellowship, and devotion.

Creek County Firefighter 1 Academy Held

In early March, the Creek County Firefighter 1 Academy began. The free academy is a 96-hour course taught by countywide fire department instructors with firefighters from Bristow, Kiefer, Agra, Shamrock, Drumright, Slick, Olive, Fairfax, Kellyville, and Silver City in attendance. The academy includes online studies, quizzes, and tests as well as intensive hands-on training. Upon course completion, participants engage in a live burn and certification testing. A small fee incurred by participants is for the live burn and certification testing.

VFW Helf Monthly Breakfast

Each month on the last Saturday, VFW Post 3656 and Wake Island Memorial hosts a “Memorial Breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The breakfast was held last Saturday, March 30. The breakfast sold for $7 and included eggs, sausage, pancakes, fruit, toast, and beverages including coffee, orange juice, or water. All proceeds for each breakfast benefit the post and memorial.

Kellyville Wine and Craft Festival

Saturday, March 30, the Creek County Fairgrounds hosted the Kellyville Wine & Craft Festival. The festival was open to the public from 9 a.m. til 5 p.m. and offered free admission in what was expected to be a family friendly event for all ages. More than 65 vendors attended the fest with available wares ranging from wine, beer, and foods to home décor, crafts, art, and woodworking.

Library Fees Change for Copy & Fax Services

Just as so many services and goods continue to increase in price, local entities must also increase prices for services they provide. In response to its own increasing costs, the library recently made a fee change announcement. As of March 22, Bristow Public Library changed its printing and fax fees. Black and white copies now run for 35 cents each, and color copies run for 50 cents each. All copies printed on a patron’s own paper run for 20 cents each. Faxing fees will be charged at 35 cents per page. On its social media page, the library noted that patrons will be responsible for all printing jobs they submit. Furthermore, the library stated that “Failure to pay will result in fines added to patron’s account.”

Artisans & Gardeners Market Holds Vendor Meeting

Bristow Artisans & Gardeners Market will host a vendor meeting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, in the Tractor Supply parking lot to the west of Charlie’s Chicken. Paid and prospective vendors are invited and encouraged to attend, and vendor applications and fees will be accepted at the meeting.
