How Can That Happen?

Archaeologists excavated an ancient Egyptian tomb during the early 19th century. They found traces of grain that were left from the third century B.C.!

That group of scientists took samples of the wheat they found, and after planting the heads of grain, the ancient durum germinated, sprouted, and matured into viable wheat. Those ancient seeds of wheat produced edible grain!

How can that happen? Not all scientists accept this claim. If so, they’d have to also believe the Bible account of Joseph in Egypt. Pharaoh appointed Joseph to construct grain bins, which he then filled with wheat for preservation of future generations (see Genesis 41:46-57; 47:13-26).

Jesus often speaks in agricultural parables. Once, He said, “I am telling you the truth: If one grain of wheat does not fall into the ground and die, it will always be just one grain of wheat, but if the grain dies, it will produce a large cluster” ( John 12:24). Jesus spoke of His own death, and the resulting benefit to the world. His message reminds us of the truth that plants will only sprout when seeds die.

He is with all those who die to their self-will, and live to do His. This person produces bountiful fruit for His kingdom. Jesus wants you to die to yourself. You cannot produce fruit for Jesus unless you submit your will to Him. Jesus must be working in you, or else nothing is happening for Him. Are you producing the kind of fruit for His kingdom that He expects?

How can that happen?

The apostle Paul describes what is needed if you are to produce fruit for Jesus. In Romans 8:9-11 he wants us to understand that we must possess God’s Holy Spirit in us.

“However, you are not being controlled by human nature; you are being controlled by the Spirit – if it is true that God’s Spirit lives in you. If anyone does not have Christ’s Spirit, then this person does not belong to Christ” (Romans 9). Your life matters to God, and He wants you to have a life that matters to you! The Spirit of the Lord must actually live in you.

How can that happen? Please read about it in your own Bible. You’ll find the answers that you want - and need - in the New Testament book of Romans.
