What was all of that crowd noise on Main Street? It was a group of elementary football players who were at Body Progression gym located at 312 North Main Street in Bristow for their end of the year football party. The gym, owned by Brandon Groom, puts on Professional Wrestling events open to the public, and recently had an event on Nov. 13. This event provided some exciting wrestling matches and also provided a message of “two are better than one because one can help the other when they fall, and can help them get up again.” Kynten loved it and his favorite match was the Lion Heart match. Coby thought it was a lot of fun but had one complaint…his throat hurt from all of the cheering. Rhett turned around during one of the matches and told his football coach “I think I busted a blood vein in my head from cheering.”

Brandon began wrestling when he was in 5th grade and continued to wrestle thru out his high school years. When he was a young boy around the age of 11 as he watched professional wrestling on television he knew that when he got older, he wanted to do that type of wrestling, and from that age on, he was determined to pursue his dream. In speaking with Brandon he will readily tell you that for him, it was a way to grab onto a strong sense of good versus evil. As he watched his wrestling idol perform he grasped a message that the wrestler would occasionally say which was “Always Believe”. Brandon has incorporated that phrase into his wrestling persona and it is strongly emphasized in each of his matches as is evident as you hear the crowd chanting “always believe, alwaysbelieve”. I have attended numerous wrestling events at Body Progression and each one involves more than just the excitement and competition of the wrestlers and matches; but also comes with a message of good versus evil, never giving up, and of course, of Always Believe. In fact, one of the first wrestling events I attended I took my grandson. He was around the age of eight and had recently moved to Houston from Bristow. He was attending a very large school and struggling with “fitting in” and with the normal emotions of a long distance move; he was becoming withdrawn and was the target of bullying. I spoke to Brandon of this prior to taking him to the wrestling event and Brandon was visibly moved. That night the message Brandon emphasized during the matches was standing firm with belief in yourself and “Always Believing” that you matter and are important. He and the other wrestlers went out of their way to reach my grandson and make sure he understood the message and that he left the matches that night feeling excited about the matches, but more importantly, feeling positive about himself. Those messages are what wrestling is about to Brandon.

The wrestling shows are geared towards the age 18 and under, but people of all ages are welcome and will enjoy it. In an effort to encourage the kids ages 18 and under to come see what it’s all about, those ages 18 and under are free of charge. Adult’s admission is $7.00. You can host parties or groups at one of the wrestling events by contacting Brandon at (918) 232-3004.

The next event will be Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023 at 5 p.m., and this event will feature Santa Claus versus The Grinch! I look forward to seeing you there as I will be bringing another group of loud and excited boys.
