A dream that began with a prayer and a converted taco truck has found a permanent home in Bristow. Heavenly Hippie Café, owned by mother and daughter duo Tricia and Ashleigh McLain, celebrated its grand opening on September 1 st , making the latest chapter in a journey Tricia says began several years ago with a God-given dream.
According to Tricia, the idea first came to her in 202 while praying, when she felt God calling her to open a coffee shop. The following year the family purchased a coffee truck and began the work of transforming what had once been a taco truck into the Heavenly Hippie coffee truck.
The truck gave them a way to take that dream on the road, but the McLain’s still hoped to eventually give the café a place to call home. For them, Bristow was an easy choice. The family has lived in Bristow for the past seven years, and Tricia said the welcoming nature of the community played a large part in their decision to open the café here.
With the doors now open, their vision for Heavenly Hippie Café goes beyond simply having a place to grab a cup of coffee. Tricia said they hope to create a comfortable atmosphere where everyone feels welcome to sit, relax, and stay awhile. The café also offers discounts to first responders, teachers and nurses.
Supporting the community,and other small businesses, is also an important part of what they hope to accomplish. “Our whole goal in doing this is not only to reach people with Jesus because that’s how we got here, but also to support other small businesses,” Tricia said.
Even the coffee they serve reflects that goal, with their coffee being locally sourced from Oklahoma City. What started as a prayer in 2020, traveled down the road in their coffee truck and eventually led the McLain’s to their new storefront at 101 South Main Street, right here in Bristow. Now, Tricia and Ashleigh hope Heavenly Hippie Café can be more than a place for coffee— a place where people feel welcome, community is supported and a God-given dream can continue to grow.
