What is so great about coffee in the morning? Ask my three year old tomcat, Bucky. It began innocently enough one morning when he jumped upon the kitchen counter to inspect my Keurig coffeemaker, which was making its usual welcoming sounds. After putting a bit of cream into my cup, I gave Bucky a lick of cream from my finger. Bucky sniffed the Keurig drain guard and licked it! 'Oh Bucky, that's coffee. Coffee is not good for cats,' I said, being the healthconscious cat person. 'Here, sniff my cup. Coffee. That's coffee,' and I dipped my finger into my cup and offered it to him. He licked my finger!
I did not think too much about it until the next morning when he jumped upon the counter and meowed when my coffee was ready. So of course I said, 'Coffee? You want Coffee?' And he again licked my finger, which I had dipped into my cup. I turned around to clean up and he meowed again. I again, offered him another lick which he took. I said, 'That's enough. Coffee is not good for cats.' I resumed cleaning and he meowed a third time. So I gave him one more lick and said, 'That is all you get.' Whereupon he jumped down and savagely attacked his pillow with all four feet, which he usually just kneads with his front paws.
Well, I decided only one lick of coffee in the morning for this little guy. After all, he has a lot of work to do: chase birds, mice, squirrels, and guard his loving people.
Of course, I know it is not good for Bucky. I guess that is the way it is with us humans as well; sometimes we do things we know are not good for us. Can you think of any? I certainly can.
