City council faces lengthy agenda

The Bristow City Council faced a lengthy agenda in its Monday evening meeting. After roll call, invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, the council got down to business. The board discussed the resignation of Councilman Tex Slyman from Ward 1 and the possible action to appoint Councilman Judd Johns as Vice-mayor. Also up for discussion and possible approval was the appointment of Ashley Linker to the Park Board, replacing Megan Blakeman and possible appointment of Tara Mattox as chairman of the Park Board.

Two public hearings were held. One on the recommendation of the planning and zoning board regarding the application for the Specific Use Permit on a variance to modify the set back lines to replace a church building and an attached drive thru awning at the Bristow Holiness Church located at 114 East 4th Ave. The second public hearing was held on the recommendation of the planning and zoning board regarding the application for a special use permit for the intent of a medical cannabis cultivation operation (medical marijuana grow house) on property located at 301 East First Street.

Discussion and consideration was made to declare one 2017 Ford Explorer K-9 unit as surplus and trade for a comparable police unit. Also consideration and possible action to declare K-9 officer Thadeaus surplus and allow the authority to act in accordance with state statue and the Code of Ordinance.

The council then considered approval of claims for the airport and swimming pool, discussing amendment of different sections of two separate ordinances and discussed possible approval for a maintenance of the new water billing slide drawer.

The board, with legal counsel, went into executive session to discuss possible approval of the potential purchase and appraisal of real property located adjacent to the City of Bristow Wastewater Treatment plant.

After adjourning the city side of the council meeting, the board approved claims for the municipal authority adjourned and opened the Hospital Authority meeting. An update was given on the licensure of Bristow Medical Center which is to be obtained by Carrus Lakeside Hospital LLC and the status of Carrus obtaining a Medicare provider number, entering into a provider agreement. A lease agreement between Carrus and the Bristow Hospital Authority for the therapy building located at 122 W. 4th Street was considered.

A claim was presented to the board from Dewberry Architects inc. for the months of Oct, Nov. Dec. 2021 and January of this year, for the program and schematic designs for Lakeside Regional Hopsital. Several claims were discussed and considered for various legal fees and to companies for repairs and parts to the boilers at Bristow Hospital.

After a lengthy agenda and careful discussion and consideration of each item, the meeting was adjourned.The council meets the first and third Mondays of each month and the public is always welcome to attend.
