Many locals driving near 1st Avenue and Main Street the afternoon of Tuesday, April 4, experienced instant anxiety when met by dozens of brightly flashing emergency lights in front of the Bristow Holiness Church and Bristow Christian Academy, BCA. The flashing lights emanated from two Creek County Sheriff Office, CCSO, units, a Bristow Fire Department, BFD, firetruck, and a Bristow Police Department, BPD, unit. Adding to the fears of passersby, the imposing new CCSO Mobile Command Center sat in their midst. Fortunately, no sinister event had occurred; instead, an invaluable learning experience had unfolded.

Last week, BCA held a “Spirit Week” filled with zany events as those that similarly occur in public schools during homecoming week. Each day, BCA students enjoyed a new, fun theme. On “Crazy Sock and Hat Day”, students wore crazy hats and socks. For “White Out Day”, they wore as much white as possible. They even held “Patriotic Day” for all things patriotic, yet despite all of the red, white, and blue flashing before the eyes of concerned onlookers Tuesday afternoon, the day was not devoted to all things patriotic. Instead, BCA students celebrated a day devoted to various careers on Tuesday.

According to Principal Jeron Presley, the school invited first responders for an afternoon ex- hibition, offering students an opportunity to explore emergency services careers in Creek County for “Career Day”. Although Creek County Ambulance was unable to attend, students were able to meet, interact with, and inquire of CCSO deputies, BPD officers, and BFD firefighters. Students peeked into emergency vehicles, viewed new equipment, and even met and petted the K-9 officer in attendance. Much to their delight, most students observed the dog receive and follow commands. All BCA students from daycare through twelfth grade participated in the interactive exhibition.

Principal Presley expressed the school’s appreciation and highlighted the value of the event, saying “Career Day was phenomenal. Student interactions with Creek County first responders proved very educational. Those kids really enjoyed the afternoon, and all learned. All emergency personnel present were very kind and professional. They were eager to teach and exhibited graceful patience with our kids, allowing them to explore the units and ask questions. For Career Day, our first responders went above and beyond. We appreciate all of the departments and professionals who came and dedicated their time to our kids, and we appreciate them keeping us safe on a daily basis.
