This year’s Patriot Pen essay contest was a major success for the VFW Post 3656. This was the most essays that I have seen since I have been involved with the VFW Post. We had eleven students that submitted an essay for the Patriot Pen, and each one of them were incredibly written. I want to thank the parents, teachers, and staff at the Middle school for helping the students to format their thoughts into a well-read essay and for adding the motivation needed to write the essays. I also want to thank Mrs. Linda Trigalet and Mrs. Sherry Eden for being the judges of the essay contest, your incredible knowledge of the written word is astonishing. The third-place winner and recipient of $25.00 is Alisyn Knight, the second-place winner and recipient of $50.00 is Kate Wilhite, and the first-place winner and recipient of $100.00 is Laryn Wages. Laryn’s essay advanced to the VFW District 8 level and will be judged alongside other essays in the district, if she wins at the district level, she will advance to the state level. Thanks again for all of those that participated in this years Patriot Pen Essay contest.
