More than 40 Walmart and Sam’s Club stores in Oklahoma have begun offering vaccines. In an announcement made last week by state health leaders, some doses would start to be allocated to local pharmacies in an attempt to get more Oklahomans vaccinated.

Again, vaccine availability will depend on the states supply. Vaccines are currently limited to first responders, health care workers and Oklahomans age 65 or older. Appointments must be schedule through Walmart or Sam ’s Club, not the OSDH portal.

Health professionals have said that both the Pfzier and Moderna vaccines are safe. Both are 95 percent effective and require two doses spaced several weeks apart. COVID vaccines are free and voluntary.

As of Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, 447,323 doses of the vaccine had been administered and 173,423 Oklahomans have completed the series, meaning they have received their second dose.

The picture shows the phases in which the vaccine will be administered. It is not expected that the vaccine will be widely available until springtime.

Even though the virus has slowed considerably, as of today, Bristow has seen 862 confirmed cases and 21 deaths due to the virus. A small community like Depew has seen 144 cases and 2 deaths. The surrounding towns such as Drumright has had 268 cases and 6 death; Stroud comes in at 395 cases and 4 deaths; Mannford 722 cases and 13 deaths, Kellyville 260 cases with 3 deaths. Sapulpa is leading with 2,851 confirmed cases and 42 deaths.

The total number across the United States is 27,694,165 and close to a half a million Americans have lost their lives, 486,325 to be exact.

Oklahoma has reported 414,272 cases with4,041 death and Creek County has reported a total of 6,317 cases and 106 deaths.

Health professionals recommend Oklahomans continue to take COVID 19 precautions even though they have had a vaccine.
