While the COVID cases continue to increase in the Bristow community, many vaccinations are being administered across the county and state.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health's Vaccine Scheduler is now operational to schedule your COVID vaccination. As of Jan. 14, 2021, 443,954 Oklahomans have registered through the portal. A total of 49,389 appointments have been scheduled by Oklahomans eligible to receive the vaccine. More appointments will be made depending on vaccine supply.

As the vaccine becomes more available to Oklahomans, it is important to remember that two doses of the vaccine are required for full protection. The second dose of the Pfizer vaccine needs to be received no earlier than 21 days after the first dose and the Moderna vaccine's second dose needs to be administered 28 days after the first vaccine.

Walk-in appointments are not available for the COVID-19 vaccine at any Oklahoma State Department of Health provider. Vaccines are being given in phases. Right now Phase 2 is being vaccinated. This includes healthcare workers, expanded healthcare workers, first responders and Oklahomans age 65 or older.

It is very simple to register. Successful registration does not guarantee an appointment. But means you will be notified by email when you are eligible to schedule your appointment. To register go to www.vaccinate.ok.gov, answer a few simple questions. It takes about five minutes to complete. Once registered you will receive an email confirming your registration. When it is your time to make an appointment, you will receive an email telling you that you are eligible to make an appointment. Anyone who does not have access to a computer or internet, you can call 211 for assistance.

Oklahoma is on track to have its worst month of the COVID-19 pandemic so far, based on the number of cases and reported deaths in the first half of January.
