Why Do Christians Love?

In our country we have Constitutional protection and freedom. There is, however, an even greater “law” which supersedes the “wisdom” of men.

When the scribes and Pharisees tested Jesus, He asked them for a common Roman coin of that time. He then asked His challengers, “Whose name and picture is on it?” (Matthew 22:20).They were speechless after His wise response to their foolishness. What was it? Look in your own Bible for His response. Although provoked, Jesus demonstrated a calm and peaceful reply.

One day, in another potentially tense situation, Jesus was in the synagogue on the Sabbath. His critics were also there. They closely watched Him. Also in “church”that morning was someone whose hand was deformed. In Mark 3:1-6 you can read all about what happened.

In another miraculous moment Jesus demonstrated His ability to immediately heal a demon-possessed man (Mark 5). The disciples had just ended a scary boat ride. Now they had landed in a cemetery. What could go wrong?

With their nerves frazzled, suddenly a dirty, creepy guy ran up to them. He’d been living among the tombs and had attacked anyone who passed by. What a sight! Jesus had just saved His disciples from a raging storm. Now there was a raging man. Read about it in your own Bible.

In each of these events recorded from the history of Jesus’ ministry, there was an uncomfortable challenge. But in each situation, Jesus knew that people needed freedom from their sinful heart problems. They needed healing from life’s obstacles. People still need freedom through Jesus!

Jesus didn’t condemn or criticize the foolishness of His critics. He simply did what was needed. It was up to those involved to either accept or reject Him. It still is!

You might be emotionally hindered, and you don’t know how to become free from your heavy load.

Most people have a life-threatening problem. The Bible speaks to this burden. You may want freedom but don’t know what to do. It’s been this way since the beginning of man’s creation. Sin is everyone’s deadliest problem! You may be suffering from it and are now living without Jesus.

Please, don’t walk away unchanged. You may have questions. Your sin keeps you from knowing God.

In 1 John 4:19 you’ll read the words, “We love, because God first loved us.” God loves you right now at this very moment. That’s why Christians love Him and others!
