Who Moved The Line?

There was a television program called What’s My Line? A team of panelists had an occupation described to them. It fit only one of three individuals brought on stage. The panel then asked certain questions to determine who fit that job. The “line” was the occupation of the correct individual.

Several individuals in the Bible also had a particular line. In their case, God had drawn the line.

God had drawn a line in the Garden of Eden. He commanded Adam, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day you eat from it you shall surely die” (Genesis 2:15-17).

God had placed a line! On one side was life; on the other side was death. Adam crossed the line!

God gave Noah a line. He commanded Noah to build an ark. Everyone who got on board would be saved, but those who refused to board the ark were destroyed by the flood that God had brought upon them.

“Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did” (Genesis 6:22; 7:5). God had drawn a line - either enter the ark or perish! We then read: “All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died…Thus He blotted out every living thing…from man to animals to creeping things to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out…and only Noah was left, together with those who were with him in the ark” (Genesis 7:22-23).

God had drawn a line - enter the ark or perish! God always makes a way! He won’t leave us hanging, but He always establishes a line. Who moved God’s line?

Some might call it being politically correct, being tolerant of man’s diversity, being accepting of the culture, or being sensitive to not offend others. But whatever man may call it, if it crosses God's line, then they have entered death.

Just as Adam learned, and as countless people in the days of Noah became aware, crossing God’s line will always bring physical, spiritual, and eternal destruction.

Please read 2 Peter 3:20-21 as it relates to the days of Noah and how few people believed God had a line. Many today have crossed the line which God had drawn centuries ago.

Where is God’s line for being saved? You can read it in your own Bible (Acts 2:37-39). This is His line for your salvation! On which side of God’s line are you? Are you also in danger of perishing?

Have you moved God’s line?
