Where Are You Going?

The young man was lonely and depressed. He walked out of his apartment and just kept walking. After going a few miles it dawned on him that he would have to stop at some point.

A bridge went over several large streams. After crossing he went to his right. He had been here many times before. Walking a long distance through a large field he suddenly realized that the sun was setting behind him.

There was still about a mile to walk before he would get back into a lighted area. The darkness was enveloping him. The path was getting narrow and more difficult to see. Woods were on one side while tall, thick brush lined the other side of the narrowing path.

There were no lights anywhere nearby. He was getting scared. Looking up, there were several stars in the night sky. He felt encouraged. He could then see the lights of civilization. Still a long way from home he could at least see light at the end of his tunnel.

Have you ever found yourself feeling lonely? Scared? Depressed? Probably most people have suffered these emotions.

The apostle John wrote in First John 1:5-10 that “God is light,” and there is no darkness in Him. He then says that only a dishonest person claims to “have fellowship with” God, but is living in darkness.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Just start walking “in the light as He Himself is in the light.” Then “the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses (you) from all sin” (vs. 7). That’s what you want, right, cleansing from all your sins?

You can if you simply walk in the light with God. This means that you must obey God. Why? Because it is the blood of His Son that saves you from your sins. You are forgiven only in Jesus.

It isn’t the truth to say that you “have no sin.” Nor is it the truth to say that you “have not sinned.” That makes God “a liar, and His word is not in (you)” (vs. 10).

Since your sins can only be taken away by the blood of Jesus, what have you done to affect that? If you have done nothing, then you are still living in darkness. You just keep on walking, and there are possible dangers all around, but you are oblivious to them.

Here’s what God says to you today. If you are walking with Him in the light, He’ll forgive your sins “and cleanse (you) from all unrighteousness” (vs. 9).

How about it? Won’t you turn to Jesus? Start walking in the light!
