What’s Your Lifeline?

Chris had a dangerous job. Even those he worked with him knew it. As a deep sea pipeline repairman, he was 300 feet below the surface one day when tragedy struck.

On the ship above, a computer tracking system kept the ship from drifting. Chris was always within sight, but the system unexpectedly failed.

Then his braided lifeline became entangled on a protruding object. This lifeline kept him tethered to the ship and carried his light source, his communication line, and his oxygen.

As the ship drifted, Chris’ lifeline stretched and broke. Chris was left alone on the 38-degree-Fahrenheit sea bottom in cavelike darkness. A fellow diver tried rescuing him and frantically pulled in Chris’lifeline, but all the lines had snapped!

Only five-minutes of reserve air was available. (You can watch this story –Last Breath – including real-time videos – on Netflix.)

What would you be thinking? Panic? Death? How is your lifeline working?

A long-time church member recently lamented, “I must have done something terrible for all the problems in my family.” Her lifeline was stretched to the breaking point.

What kind of lifeline works best? Only one never fails. This lifeline carries you safely into eternity.

“Don’t love money. Be satisfied with what you have. God Himself has said this: ‘I will never leave you.’ ‘I will never abandon you.’” (Hebrews 13:5) Become less attached to this temporary life, and your life will become less stressed. Place your trust in God rather than in wealth.

Jesus gave words of comfort when encouraging His followers, telling them, “Remember, I am always with you – even until the end of time” (Matthew 28:20).

You will never be alone when Jesus, the ultimate lifeline, is Lord of your life. He said, “We know that all things work together for good for people who love God. They are called for God’s purpose” (Romans 8:28). Notice that loving God is the requirement.

Jesus will not abandon you! These words of encouragement give peace: “You have been tempted the same way all people have been tempted, but God is faithful. He will not allow Satan to tempt you with more than you can resist. No, when you are being tempted, God will also give you a way to escape, so that you can endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Research the many Bible assurances in your own Bible. You can have the only working lifeline that Jesus provides when you give your life to Him!
