What Would Jesus Ask You?

Jesus liked to ask questions of those who heard Him teach. One of those questions is found in Luke 6:46-49. Here Jesus speaks to His followers, but some have come just to hear what He has to say, not having a thought for changing their hearts or their lives.

Jesus asks, “Now why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when there was a flood, the river burst against that house and yet it could not shake it, because it had been well built.

“But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation; and the river burst against it and it immediately collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.”

What really matters is whether or not you are going to act upon His words. That makes sense, doesn’t it?

Jesus asked His disciples what they thought about who He is: “But who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).

If you answer that question correctly, what might Jesus say to you next? He may possibly say, “Now why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”

There’s a world full of people who hear the words of Jesus, but that same world finds few who act upon His words.

Jesus has warned us about hearing without doing. “For many are called, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:14).

Jesus asks us the compelling question, “For what good will it do a person if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul? Or what will a person give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew16:26).

When the last closing of your eyes occurs, and you take your final breath, where will be your place in eternity? It will be difficult to one day hear - or read - the truth, and then choose to obey Jesus.

If there is a conflict between His words and what your mother or father or respected friend told you, what then? Think about that for a moment! Who would you then choose to obey?

Where do you want to be in eternity?
